Have you ever wondered exactly how much your laundry weighs? Whether you're planning to use our pickup & delivery service, dropping off at our Lake City location, or just trying to figure out how many loads you need to do — knowing the weight of your laundry can save you time and money.

In this guide, we'll break down the average weight of common laundry items, explain how laundry weight affects your service cost, and show you how to estimate your order before you book.

Why Does Laundry Weight Matter?

At Super Kleen Laundry, our drop-off and pickup & delivery services are priced by the pound. This means the more your laundry weighs, the more you pay — but you only pay for exactly what you send. No guessing, no flat fees for a bag you only half-filled.

Real-World Examples: What Does a Typical Order Cost?

Let's say you have a week's worth of laundry for two people. Here's what that might look like:
Example: Couples Load
10 T-shirts: 4.4 lbs
4 pairs of jeans: 6.2 lbs
8 pairs of underwear: 0.9 lbs
8 pairs of socks: 0.9 lbs
4 bath towels: 4.4 lbs
2 sets of sheets: 6.6 lbs
Total: ~23.4 lbs
At our standard rate of $2.35/lb, that comes to approximately $54.99 for drop-off, or $59.99 with pickup & delivery (including the $5.00 delivery charge).

Tip: If your order is around 60 lbs or less, our Couples Bag at $65 flat (pickup & delivery) might actually be the better deal! Use our to compare both options side by side.

Does Wet Laundry Weigh More Than Dry?

Yes — wet laundry can weigh 2 to 3 times as much as dry laundry. This is why we always weigh your laundry dry before processing. The weight of your bag or basket is also always deducted from the total. This ensures you're only paying for your actual clothing, not the water or the container.

How to Estimate Your Laundry Weight at Home

You don't need a scale to get a rough estimate. Here are a few quick methods:
Method 1 — Use our free calculator

Our lets you select individual items and automatically calculates the estimated weight and cost. It's the easiest and most accurate way to estimate your order.
Method 2 — Use a bathroom scale

Step on the scale without your laundry, note your weight, then step on again, holding your laundry basket. The difference is your laundry weight.
Method 3 — Use the basket rule of thumb

A standard laundry basket, typically filled about ¾ full, weighs around 15–18 lbs. A full basket usually weighs 20–25 lbs.

What About Comforters and Bulky Items?

Comforters, duvets, rugs, and other oversized items weigh significantly more than regular clothing:
Item
Estimated Weight
Twin Comforter
3–5 lbs
Full/Queen Comforter
5–8 lbs
King Comforter
8–12 lbs
Area Rug (small)
5–10 lbs
Area Rug (large)
15–30+ lbs
Important note: Rugs, comforters, and other bulk items are excluded from same-day rush service. They are processed on our standard 24-hour turnaround schedule.

Bag Pricing vs. Per-Pound Pricing: Which Is Better for You?

We offer both options — here's how to decide:

Choose per-pound pricing if:
You have a smaller or irregular amount of laundry
You want to pay exactly for what you send
Your order is under 15 lbs or over 75 lbs

Choose bag pricing if:
You have a predictable, consistent amount of laundry
You want a flat, easy-to-budget price
Your order fits within one of our bag sizes (up to 15, 60, or 75 lbs)

Our bag pricing for pickup & delivery:
Single Bag — $37 (up to 15 lbs)
Couples Bag — $65 (up to 60 lbs)
Family Bag — $125 (up to 75 lbs)
All bag pricing includes the $5.00 delivery charge, wash, dry, fold, detergent, and packaging.

Still not sure which is better for your order? Our shows you both options side by side so you can choose the best value.
